Lava Lamp Logo - Design exercise
The purpose of this brief is to design a logo for an event lighting company that specialises in interactive lighting. Their target audience are hipster start-up companies and urban based corporations that have events to promote product launches and promotional parties.

They have requested the logo incorporates an icon and the text "Lava Lamp Lab".
I came up with 3 basic designs for the logo which I think would represent they are a lighting company while appealing to their target audience.

The first design is a lava lamp inside a polygon shape. I used a grey and orange colour palette and used a gradient effect on the lava bubbles inside the lamp. I used grey for the font colour and placed the text over the top of the lamp but behind the lava bubbles to create the effect that the middle letters are inside the lamp. I used a sans serif font as the company is modern yet unique.

The second design is again a lava lamp but inside a rounded rectangle background. I created the word "lamp" in lava bubbles to try create a more immersive look. I put highlights on the lava bubbles to try create depth I sticked to the same colour palette and used the same font for the "lava" and "Lab". I don’t love this design but it was ambitious and a good learning experience.

For the third logo I combined some elements from the previous designs and I think this was the strongest design out of the three. I refined my lava lamp icon and lava bubbles. I used a gradient still but didn’t add the highlight like in the second design. I stuck with the same colour palette again and added an orange gradient background to help the lamp pop out and glow. I placed "lava" with the A inside the lamp and lined up the rest of the text with the L in "lava". I used the same font from the previous designs for "lava" but went with a finer sans serif for the other two words of the text. I placed the lava bubbles over the A to create the illusion that its inside the lamp.
After some feedback in class I removed the gradient background as it made the lava bubbles hard to define and I think by removing it the logo looks cleaner.

I feel the third design is my strongest and best represents the brief.
